Ayacucho
The department of Ayacucho is located in the south Andes of Peru. It limits to the north with the departments of Huancavelica, Junín and Cusco, to the east with Apurímac, to the south with Arequipa and to the west with Ica. Its capital is the city of Ayacucho, the same name of the department.
Ayacucho city is considered one of the most beautiful of Peru with a lot of colonialism still running through its streets. It is known as the “Peruvian Seville” because their festivities during the holy week and its beautiful mansions old-fashioned European style. It is also known as the “City of Churches”; you can find 33 churches nearby the historical downtown. I’m sure at this point you have realized the people of Ayacucho are very religious.
If you love handicraft, Ayacucho might be a mandatory stop on your itinerary. Ayacucho is considered the cradle of artisans in Peru and its handicrafts are worldwide admired.
From Ayacucho you’ll have access to the Archaeological Complex of Wari (Known as Huari as well) The Wari culture has developed between 500 A.C. and 1100 A.C. and it predominated this territory. You’ll find many Wari constructions in this area.
As you see, Ayacucho has many culture to offer, religious is alive wherever you go and your senses will be taken to another dimension as you submerge with them.
