The Cathedral

It`s hard to compare all religious monuments Peru hold`s today but i`ll never doubt to say arequipa`s cathedral is sincerelly peruvian masterpiece.

It is situated in the center of the city in front of the Plaza de Armas.

Arequipa`s cathedral was first built in 1612 and it was rebuilt in 1844 after a fire. Most recently in 2001 because of an earthquake the cathedral lost one tower and it was rebuilt by the end of the same year.

Inside it is decorated with marble and wood, and in the back of the cathedral there is an impressive belgian Pipe organ dating to the 19th century, This is one of the biggest organs in Latin America.
