Huaraz
The Callejón de Huaylas is located to the north of Lima and corresponds to the valley formed in the middle of the Cordillera Negra and the Cordillera Blanca, and in its center is the city of Huaraz.
At an altitude of 3091 m, Huaraz is the entrance port to the highest peaks in Peru. And although Huaraz may not be that attractive itself, it is the meeting place for climbers and tourists eager to do trekking in the high mountains.
The mountains of Cordillera Blanca at more than 4000 meters make up the Huascarán National Park, with Huascarán being the tallest mountain in Peru at a height of 6768 m. In the Cordillera Blanca are found around 22 hot springs and more than 600 lakes, some of these being the Llanganuco Lagoons.
The Huaraz zone is abundant in hot springs among which are the thermal baths of Monterrey. In the nearby important archaeological site of Chavín de Huántar to the east of Cordillera Blanca. To the south of Huaraz is the Cordillera Huayhuash where the Yerupajá corresponds to the second highest peak of the country.
