Amazonas

The department of Amazonas is located in the north of Peru, in the eyebrow of the Amazon region. This is the cradle of the Chachapoyas Culture, a Pre-Inca culture, dating from 400 AC to 1,440 AC.

Perhaps the most important, and well-known, monument in this region is the Kuélap Fortress, compared for some as the "Machu Picchu" of the jungle. For those who love adventure Kuélap might be really an excellent destination full of mystery where you`ll have the opportunity no only to enjoy an everlasting spring season and mountain freshness but to experience some adventurous tourism and practicing sports such as backpacking, trekking, mountaineering, horseback, rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking.

The other important monument is Gran Pajatén which is a typical Chachapoyas architecture expression. Both of them form part of the northern tourism circuit and those who are looking for adventure and a deep contact with nature must take this tour.
